Abstract
Agricultural mechanization, particularly the use of agricultural tools and machinery (alsintan), has been shown to contribute to increased operational efficiency in agricultural activities. The use of the TR2 is considered more suitable for Indonesia’s agroecosystem conditions, which are characterized by small and fragmented farm plots. This study has the advantage of a more contextual spatial approach, specifically focusing on the city of Binjai, which has relatively limited agricultural land. The sampling method in this study employs a non-probability approach using a saturated census technique, with a sample size of 50 respondents. This study employs a mixed-methods (quantitative–qualitative) approach with a sequential explanatory design, which integrates quantitative analysis to measure the efficiency of two-wheeled tractor (TR2) utilization, followed by qualitative analysis to formulate development strategies based on empirical findings. The results indicate that the use of two-wheeled tractors is proven to be more efficient than manual methods, with an efficiency rate of 54.50%. Operational costs decreased significantly from Rp4,896,650 to Rp1,577,000, indicating substantial savings. Mechanization also increased production through faster and more timely planting. The SWOT analysis places the use of two-wheeled tractors in Quadrant I (highly favorable conditions), while the QSPM indicates priority strategies in the form of optimizing utilization through government support and extension services. The implementation of this strategy improves efficiency, institutional capacity, cropping intensity, as well as production and farmers’ welfare.
