Abstract

ABSTRACT

This article reports on the effect of population densities and row irientations on growth of sweet corn and yield of baby corn. An experiment employing a split-plot design was conducted in Narmada district, West Lombok. The population densities tested were 143,000 plants ha-1, 95,000 plants ha-1, 71,000 plants ha-1, and 48,000 plants ha-1, while the row orientations were north-south and east-west. Row orientations were allocated as the main plots and population densities were assigned as sub plots. All treatments were replicated three times. The results show that only population densities affected plant growth (leaf area index and plat biomass) and baby corn yield. The highest leaf area index, biomass and yield were gained from the highest population density followed by the population densities of 95,000 plants ha-1, 71,000 plants ha-1, and 48,000 plants ha-1, respectively. In producing sweet corn, there were no signs of competition, both below and above the ground in the highest population density.
